54. At its fiftieth session, the General Assembly in its resolution 50 121 had reaffirmed the relevance of UNITAR, particularly in view of the many training requirements of all Member States.

The primary goals of the evaluation exercise were to evaluate the effectiveness of the courses and to identify the factors that led to the successful application of knowledge gained from the training course.

Each of the training sessions was preceded by a distance learning course.

Overall, the participants rated the workshop highly, particularly the quality of materials distributed and the effectiveness of the trainers (see figure 2).

The traditional methods are training in specialized centres, training in the workplace, training by mobile teams and distance training, to which computers and technological aids have recently been added.

ITS comprises the Training and Evaluation Service of the Military Division, the Civilian Training Section of the Office of Mission Support and assets from the Police Division and will be the focal point at Headquarters for the integrated training centres now established in many field missions.

The Department of Peacekeeping Operations had developed an interim system tracking tool for monitoring the replenishment of strategic deployment stocks.

In the view of the STPS education and training are fundamental factors in the development of the potentialities, skills, abilities, values and attitudes of the workers. Against this background the STPS is responsible for the framing of public policy on training for the men and women workers of the country.
