A proposal from the Commission of the European Union for a new directive is currently under discussion by the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament.

It will be making specific proposals during the Conference.

Originally this document was the contribution of the European Union to the 2005 Review Conference.

The EU feels that the withdrawal issue should be given serious consideration by the Review Conference.

On 4 February 2005, the European Union Ministers responsible for gender equality policy and the European Commissioner with responsibility for this portfolio participated in a European Ministerial Conference in Luxembourg.

A special emphasis was placed by the Council of Europe on recommendation 1284 (1996) of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council on European environment policy (1994 1995).

Of course, I fully support all the proposals made by the European Union (EU) in this context.

AGREES that the EU action to support the ICPD agenda should be pursued both at global and country level.

On 28 October, the Council of Ministers, meeting in Luxembourg, had appointed Ambassador Moratinos as the European Union apos s envoy to the peace process.

The increasing detachment of the budget from the Union s objectives is sustained by decision making procedures that authorize the European Council, representing member governments, to take all the important decisions according to a rule of unanimity, with the European Parliament and the European Commission confined to a minor role.

The Commission s progress report will be dealt with by the European Council next month. At that meeting, European leaders should ask themselves the following questions Has the EU given Turkey a fair deal in the case of Cyprus?

The Tampere European Council endorsed the principle of mutual recognition of judicial decisions within the European Union.

At the request of the participants in the European Council in Thessaloniki in 2003, the European Union had presented, in June 2004, a communication explaining how it could contribute to improving access to protection and durable solutions.

During the Dutch EU Presidency in 2004 a conference will be held to discuss equal treatment now and in the future in the Member States of the European Union, on the basis of a Green Paper drafted by the European Commission.

The European Union adopted the sanctions imposed by Security Council resolution 1390 (2002) through a common position of the Council of the European Union dated 27 May 2002 (2002 402 CFSP), amended by common position 2003 140 CFSP.

In fact, for many young people in the debtor countries, the EU seems like a foreign oppressor. And about 30 of the recently elected European Parliament ran on anti European platforms.

Similarly, the European Commission could become the executive, while the European Court of Justice takes on the role of an EU judiciary. And, given European countries long and proud history, I have no doubt that subsidiarity will play a major role in the future Europe significantly greater than in current models of federation.

CIDSE participates in the follow up to summit conference resolutions at the level of the European Union and its member organizations in their respective national platforms.

A group of citizens would be able to invite the European Commission to propose new legislation. National parliaments would be given a say in EU lawmaking, as the treaty recognizes the roles of parliaments in the adequate workings of the Union.
