The law should provide that if, under the recommendations in this chapter, the applicable law is that of a multi unit State or one of its territorial units, the internal choice of law rules in force in that multi unit State shall determine whether the substantive rules of law of that multi unit State or of a particular territorial unit of that multi unit State shall apply.

The fundamental underlying intent of national legislation was the dispossession of indigenous peoples apos lands, territories and natural resources.

The Overseas Territories Act, which came into force in 2002, provides British citizenship to the peoples of its Overseas Territories, including Bermudians.

The reason for that position was the impossibility of our country's signing the Ottawa Convention due to the conflict in and occupation of its territories.

The British Overseas Territories Act, which came into force in 2002, grants the right to full British citizenship to all inhabitants of the Territories and formally abolishes the terms colony and dependent territory .

As long as the administering Powers exercise unilateral authority to make laws and other regulations affecting the Non Self Governing Territories without their consent, pursuant to such methods as legislation, orders in council and other methods, a Territory should not be considered self governing.

It is deplored that since 1974 the State party, due to the lengthy occupation of part of Cyprus by Turkish forces and the continued division of the country, is not in a position to exercise control over the whole of its territory and in consequence cannot ensure the implementation of the provisions of the Convention throughout the country.
