79. The project on an International Network of Food Data Systems (INFOODS) almost attained its goal of involving every country in the world in its network of regional food composition databases.

No action has been taken by the National Transitional Government of Liberia in the past six months.

Both USDA and IFDA agreed to use the International Network of Food Data Systems (INFOODS) tag names, which would permit free exchange of data with other regional and national databases in the INFOODS system.

As part of the new project to modernize FAOSTAT, the FAO list of agricultural products has been carefully reviewed and revised.

FAO anticipated that the volume of licensed vessels in the database would increase significantly in the future.

The FAO project Support for early warning and food security information in Somalia will assist the Food Security Assessment Unit in developing agricultural statistics and databases through an initiative to complement the project with valuable remote sensing inputs.

One meeting established quality tags for food composition data that will be incorporated into the INFOODS system and the other provided guidelines for a future meeting of the UNU sponsored IUNS Committee on Terminology and Nomenclature for Food Composition Databases.

UNEP will continue the Soil and Terrain Digital Database (SOTER) activities in 1997 with the International Soils Reference and Information Centre and FAO.

ECA will cooperate with FAO in planning, coordinating and implementing activities of the AFRICOVER project.
