As a few countries emerge as major economic superpowers and important trade partners, such as China and India, the impact across developing countries may be uneven.

But Russia is no match for the US militarily and no match for China economically, and its soft power is virtually non existent. If Russia can provoke America whether by granting political asylum to the traitor Edward Snowden, for example, or by resisting Western diplomacy in the Middle East it is not because it has become a great power once again, but simply because America is no longer the great power that it once was.

Has the United States transcended the laws of economics? As the New Year begins, the US continues to race ahead of its rich country counterparts.

We should not allow them to be dominated or dealt with by the super Power or by a few powerful countries.

The United States is the only superpower, and it's likely to remain that way for two or three decades.
