EFCT was also able to mark 15 years as a member of the Joint Meetings Industry Council (whose Chair it currently occupies), which brings together the top 13 professional organizations worldwide in the conference industry.

Representatives of the Bureau of the Commission have participated in a number of joint Bureau meetings organized by the Bureau of the Economic and Social Council.

Collaboration took place, through joint programmes and reports, addresses of the Chairperson of one commission to another commission, joint Bureau meetings and joint meetings of the commission secretariats. It was agreed that a best practice approach should be taken in this respect in view of the different focuses of the various commissions.

Bureau members reaffirmed their support for collaboration and coordination with other functional commissions, especially in the form of joint meetings of the Bureaux or their Chairs, as exemplified by the meeting held in 2004 between the Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women and the Chair of the Commission on Population and Development.

The meeting was attended by eight United Nations agencies.

ANNEX X Membership of the Board and attendance at the forty eighth session

Most recently, one of the Commission's vice chairpersons attended the meeting of the chairpersons of the functional commissions with the Council in July 2004, during the substantive session of the Council in New York.

32. On 19 May 1997, the Chairman of the Committee on Conferences met with the Chairman of the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and on the Strengthening of the Role of the Organization.

They also had a meeting with representatives of the Expanded Bureau of the sixty first session of the Commission on Human Rights and a joint meeting with participants at the seventeenth meeting of persons chairing the human rights treaty bodies.

To improve interaction among functional commissions and promote coherence within the United Nations intergovernmental machinery, three types of meetings have been organized, involving the chairpersons of these commissions (i) joint meetings of the bureaux of the functional commissions and the Economic and Social Council (ii) a meeting of the chairpersons of the commissions with the Council and (iii) a meeting of the chairpersons of all functional commissions.
