The English text of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide speaks of genocide as a crime under international law.

Forgetting, hiding or obliterating the history of genocide perpetrated against a people also contributes to weakening the universal struggle against genocide.

26. The High Commissioner has welcomed the start of the genocide trials, which represents a significant step towards bringing the perpetrators of the genocide to justice and compensating civil claimants.

But since aggression and genocide are generally recognized as international crimes, it is logical to conclude that slavery and racial discrimination, which the Court ranks alongside aggression and genocide, must also be regarded as international crimes.

11. The inquiry into the genocide is taking its course.
