The Ransom Dilemma

This organization is reported to have demanded and received ransom for the release of European hostages that it abducted in 2003.

The same is true of ransoms paid.

In the first line of paragraph 11, the words for ransom should be inserted after We note with concern the rise of kidnapping .

Indeed if the disbelievers owned all that is in the earth and a similar one in addition to it, and they offered it as a ransom to save themselves from the punishment of the Day of Resurrection, it would not be accepted from them and for them is a painful punishment.

The unbelievers, though they possessed all that is in the earth, and the like of it with it, to ransom themselves from the chastisement of the Day of Resurrection thereby, it would not be accepted of them for them awaits a painful chastisement.

Verily those who have disbelieved, if they had all that is in the earth and with it as much again whereby to ransom themselves from the torment on the Day of Judgement, it shall not be accepted of them, and theirs shall be a torment afflictive.

Verily, those who disbelieve, if they had all that is in the earth, and as much again therewith to ransom themselves thereby from the torment on the Day of Resurrection, it would never be accepted of them, and theirs would be a painful torment.

As for those who disbelieve, even if they owned everything on earth, and the like of it with it, and they offered it to ransom themselves from the torment of the Day of Resurrection, it will not be accepted from them. For them is a painful punishment.

For those who disbelieved even if they had all that is in the earth, and the like of it with it, and offered it all as ransom from chastisement on the Day of Resurrection, it will not be accepted of them a painful chastisement lies in store for them.

As for those who disbelieve, lo! if all that is in the earth were theirs, and as much again therewith, to ransom them from the doom on the Day of Resurrection, it would not be accepted from them. Theirs will be a painful doom.

Indeed if the faithless possessed all that is on the earth, and as much of it besides, to redeem themselves with it from the punishment of the Day of Resurrection, it shall not be accepted from them, and there is a painful punishment for them.

As for those who disbelieve, if they possessed all that the earth contains and as much besides to ransom themselves from the punishment of the Day of Resurrection, it shall not be accepted from them. Theirs shall be a painful punishment.

Indeed, those who disbelieve if they should have all that is in the earth and the like of it with it by which to ransom themselves from the punishment of the Day of Resurrection, it will not be accepted from them, and for them is a painful punishment

Had the unbelievers had twice as much as the wealth of the whole earth in order to ransom themselves from the torment in the life hereafter, still their ransom would not have been accepted. For them there will be a painful torment.

Surely (as for) those who disbelieve, even if they had what is in the earth, all of it, and the like of it with it, that they might ransom themselves with it from the punishment of the day of resurrection, it shall not be accepted from them, and they shall have a painful punishment.

As for those who reject Faith, if they had everything on earth, and twice as much again and offered it to ransom themselves from the torment of the Day of Resurrection, it shall not be accepted from them they will have a painful punishment.

As to those who reject Faith, if they had everything on earth, and twice repeated, to give as ransom for the penalty of the Day of Judgment, it would never be accepted of them, theirs would be a grievous penalty.

Had this not been decreed by God in advance, you would have suffered a grievous punishment for what you took (as booty).

Had Allah not pre destined a matter then, O Muslims, a terrible punishment would have come upon you due to the ransom you took from the disbelievers.

Had it not been for a prior prescription from God, there had afflicted you, for what you took, a mighty chastisement.

Were it not that a writ had already gone forth from Allah, there would surely have touched you a mighty torment for that which ye took

Were it not a previous ordainment from Allah, a severe torment would have touched you for what you took.

Were it not for a predetermined decree from God, an awful punishment would have afflicted you for what you have taken.

Had there not been a previous decree from Allah, a stern punishment would have afflicted you for what you have taken.

Had it not been for an ordinance of Allah which had gone before, an awful doom had come upon you on account of what ye took.

Had it not been for a prior decree of Allah, surely there would have befallen you a great punishment for what you took.

Had there not been a previous writing from Allah, you would have been afflicted by a mighty punishment.

If not for a decree from Allah that preceded, you would have been touched for what you took by a great punishment.

(Had you taken captives) before being allowed by God's revelations, a great torment would have struck you for what you had done.

Were it not for an ordinance from Allah that had already gone forth, surely there would have befallen you a great chastisement for what you had taken to.

Had it not been for a writ from God that had already gone forth, you would have been severely punished on account of what you took.

Had it not been for a previous ordainment from Allah, a severe penalty would have reached you for the (ransom) that ye took.

There is redemption. And there is resurrection.

Governments that pay ransoms are saving the lives of some of their citizens, but putting the remainder of their citizens and others at greater risk. The refusal to pay ransoms to terrorists can seem callous, but in truth it is the only ethical policy.
