By the mid 1990s, most United Nations staff members working from offices were comfortable with personal computers as a basic working tool and with ICT as tools of information sharing.

An important contribution was being made by the work under the auspices of the ICT Network of the United Nations System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB) and the ICT Task Force.

Examples include the design of processes and work layout, the construction of an information and communication technology infrastructure, the procurement and installation of hardware and software for the systems and the training of staff in information and communication technology applications.

Staff skills will be upgraded substantially through advanced training in forensic auditing, ICT and communications.

The Committee also recalls that it had recommended a thorough review of the staff and non staff resources devoted to information and communication technology throughout the United Nations (see A 58 7, para.

The Commission expressed its appreciation to the national correspondents for their work and urged States to cooperate with the Secretariat in the operation of CLOUT and to facilitate the carrying out of the tasks of the national correspondents.

Such employment tends, however, to be insecure and characterized by a lack of social protection, especially for women migrant workers.31 While ICT has created new types of work that may potentially benefit women, such as outsourcing and home based work, there is still a wide gap between women and men in access to and usage of ICT in many countries.

The United Nations Information and Communication Technology Task Force was a valuable example of private public civil society cooperation.

All three message centres will be staffed by the Secretariat to ensure the smooth movement of messages into and out of the General Assembly Hall and restricted areas.

During the first meeting of CPM 99, the members of the study groups, working parties, task groups, joint rapporteur groups and joint task groups of ITU R were entrusted with the responsibility of preparing the studies requested by WRC 97 ahead of the forthcoming WRC 99 and WRC 2001.

Particular attention to wages, working conditions, job security, participation in decision making, women's ability to export services, and access to credit and information and communication technologies is required.

The Committee trusts that efforts will continue to improve administrative processes through, inter alia, maximum use of technological innovations and to link such improvement to the functional assignment of staff.

(iii) Process for considering non Annex I communications

61. The Chairman drew attention to a letter from the President of the United Nations Staff Union addressed to himself (the Chairman) informing him that four staff members in the Department of General Assembly Affairs and Conference Services had been told that their contracts would be terminated because their posts were being abolished, in violation of the commitments given by the Secretary General that no staff members would lose their jobs as a result of reform.
