In Poland examinations of the health of the environment are performed by the Ministry of Protection of the Environment, Natural Resources and Forestry as well as the State Environment Protection Supervisory Body and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare through the State Sanitary Supervisory Body.

Environmental impact assessment techniques should also take into account the ecological footprints of cities.

UNEP has taken the lead in this programme area, having focused on biosafety by promoting the protection of the environment through the safe application of biotechnology and its products.

33. Environmental management standards, however, do not guarantee, by themselves, improvements in environmental performance of production and or of products, but they assure only compliance to an adopted EMS and to a declared environmental policy that fulfills, at a minimum, national regulations.

The Forum was organized in cooperation with the UNEP International Environmental Technology Centre, with support from the private sector in Japan.

Within UNEP, the overall responsibility for the implementation of the Bali Strategic Plan should rest with the Executive Director of UNEP, who should establish a focal point at UNEP headquarters to facilitate in house coordination.

Continuation of close cooperation between the State Sanitary Supervisory Body and the State Environmental Protection Supervisory Body including the participation of the former in the realization of state environment monitoring

Leadership in Brazil was provided by the Ministério do Meio Ambiente (Programa Nacional de Florestas PNF, and Instituto Brasileiro de Meio Ambiente e Recursos Naturais Renoviváveis IBAMA) and the Ministério das Relações Exteriores through the Agência Brasileira de Cooperação MRE ABC.
