Commodity dependent countries, particularly in Africa, will require an integrated approach, including special support to diversify their exports, add value to their commodity exports, build the associated supply capacity, manage commodity price volatility and develop a new generation of commodity financing schemes.

Commodity exporters that have benefited from recent increases in prices and export volumes must maintain their efforts to diversify their commodity sector, as well as to generate higher value added in other sectors.

At the same time Africa apos s commodity exports remained stagnant and their real value had fallen by 50 per cent.

But these declines in share of commodities in world trade do not reflect an absolute diminution in the value of commodity exports.

That situation was even more serious since the earnings of those countries were derived from commodity exports whose value had been declining steadily.
