It is located next to the existing irradiation facility for medical products.

19. Medical irradiation is the largest source of man made exposure of the population.

Nearly 600 industrial plants use radioisotopes, e.g. in food irradiation, polymerization, industrial radiography and oil well operations.

But the active irradiation, during the UV and for an hour after it, there is dilation of the blood vessels.

Our first commercial food irradiation plant is now under construction and should be operational by the end of next year.

In view of the long lived radionuclides in the environment, the population is still subject to chronic internal and external irradiation.

The results obtained through induced mutations in the space environment could not be reproduced by artificial irradiation or other methods on the ground.

In order to study it, it has been decided to build the International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility (IFMIF) in Japan. Some scientists have argued that the neutron irradiation in IFMIF won t be the same as in fusion reactors, but it should be noted that its cost, at one billion euros, will be one tenth that of ITER.

The population in that area continues to be subject to chronic internal and external irradiation because of the long lived radioactive nuclides present in the environment.

The Institute has also been operating a food irradiation plant for over 10 years now. That plant is functioning at full capacity and mainly irradiates grains and spices. We would like to emphasize the fact that, with the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Institute conducted a technical economic feasibility study which points to the possibility of establishing a number of food irradiation plants in central Mexico.

And what we've shown is that doing a sham irradiation this is the thick line here this is shining UV on the arm so it warms up but keeping it covered so the rays don't hit the skin.

To achieve the goal that has been set, a series of measures are being taken with a view to protecting the population from radiation by limiting the doses of irradiation and maintaining them at the legally specified level.

But again, these are done in these primordial conditions, really messy conditions, not sort of sterile laboratory conditions.
