2. Functions and responsibilities of the Travel and Transportation Service

With regard to operational costs, the Advisory Committee recommended that expenditure for official travel and air transportation should be reduced.

The Service makes policy recommendations on all travel and transportation issues to the Assistant Secretary General for Central Support Services.

During 1997, in the context of the report of the Secretary General of 27 October 1997 on procurement reform (A 52 534 and Corr.1) and the related report thereon by the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions, effective July 1997 the Transportation Section, including the Travel and Transportation Units, was separated from the Division and established as a separate entity, the Travel and Transportation Service (see below).
