1. The present addendum reports on subsequent developments in procurement since the issuance of document A 53 271.

Projects, such as the procurement of a new document management system, are assigned resources for hardware, software and training.

This document will also contribute to the implementation of the Global Compact principles in United Nations procurement practices by addressing the issue of corporate social responsibility, environmental and sustainable procurement and corruption.

Document A 59 688 contained an update of the report covering the latest developments in procurement and contract management in peacekeeping operations.

The background to the current work of Working Group I (Procurement) on the revision of the UNCITRAL Model Law on Procurement of Goods, Construction and Services (the UNCITRAL Model Procurement Law or the Model Law ) is set out in paragraphs 5 to 34 of document A CN.9 WG.I WP.37.

As noted in paragraphs 3 to 7 and annex I to document A 52 534 and Corr.1, the Procurement Division was then restructured into two Commodity Procurement Sections, each with four clusters, and one Support Services Section.

These include better procurement planning by requisitioning units, streamlining the procurement process in the Procurement Division and by the Headquarters Committee on Contracts and making necessary changes to the procurement framework, including regulations, rules and refinements in the Procurement Manual.

At UNDP, procurement staff also receives training on legal aspects of procurement.

Requisitioning departments, in cooperation with the Procurement Division, should develop and submit annual procurement plans for standard procurement (AM97 71 4 11).
