Persuasion and education are used among women and girls who engage in prostitution.

Republic of Tajikistan law specifies criminal liability for drawing persons into prostitution and for setting up or maintaining houses of prostitution, conspiring to engage in prostitution or trafficking in prostitutes.

Trafficking in people, particularly women in order to engage them in prostitution, presents a problem which has recently become extremely accute at the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Most of the children and young people engage in prostitution in towns away from their homes, and the women travelled to these towns initially to work in domestic service.

Article 316 provides that any woman who is proven to influence, for the purpose of gain, the activities of a prostitute in such a manner as to demonstrate that she is assisting or compelling the latter to engage in prostitution with another person or to engage in prostitution generally shall be punished by imprisonment of one year or by a fine of up to 50 dinars.

Depending on the circumstances of each case, the offence committed may be termed abduction and trafficking in children, abandonment of an infant, organizing prostitution, coercion into prostitution, enticing a girl under the age of 14 to engage in prostitution, engaging the services of a child prostitute, production, duplication, publication, sale and dissemination of pornographic material for profit, or dissemination of pornographic material.

Under article 239 of the Criminal Code, setting up or maintaining houses of prostitution, as well as conspiring to engage in prostitution for mercenary purposes and trafficking in prostitutes, is punishable by a fine that is 1000 2000 times the minimum monthly wage or by incarceration for up to five years.

Current figures indicate that 10 12 of the female minors in the care of the Service for Women and female minors of the Ministry of Social Affairs engage in prostitution, (approximately 45 female minors).

They appear in BiH in a classical manner as waitresses, dancers, and then, in some number of cases, they are forced to engage in prostitution, caught in a circle of debt slavery, as well as sexual violence and abuse.

Criminal charges were filed against them for the existence of reasonable suspicion that the suspects committed following criminal offences trafficking in people to engage them in prostitution (53 persons), soliciting in prostitution (44 persons), establishment of slavery relations (4 persons), and illegal detention (5 persons). 42 foreign female citizens were charged with possession of forged passports.

Third party encouragement of prostitution and the engagement of minors in prostitution were prohibited.
