The Engineering Section currently has six United Nations staff store workers.

Specialist engineering staff are provided through an arrangement with the non governmental organization Red R (Australia).

This process of re engineering provides a unique opportunity to increase the output of each staff member.

Within the engineering branch, the number of women graduates is higher than the average in chemical engineering and manufacturing (28.6 per cent), environmental engineering (21.2 per cent), civil engineering (20.7 per cent), industrial engineering (19.7 per cent), piscicultural (18.8 per cent) and systems engineering (17.6 per cent).

The Engineering Section would replace the Buildings Management Section previously proposed in the report of 16 December 1997 and would absorb its staff.

This is essential to ensure that staff are kept up to date with technology in the areas of communications, transport, engineering and logistics.
