The 14,372 education staff including teachers, administrative staff and support staff represented more than two thirds of all Agency staff, while the education budget of 160.3 million for 1998 accounted for half of the total Agency budget.

No visits were made to detained staff members in Jordan.

The education programme remained the largest single area of activity in the Agency, with 19,152 education staff (including teaching and administrative staff), representing 77 per cent of all Agency staff (24,869), while the programme's regular budget of 188.5 million for 2004 amounted to 53.7 per cent of the Agency's total regular budget.
