The Council postponed to a future session the election of six experts from African States, one expert from Asian States, three experts from Eastern European States, two experts from Latin American and Caribbean States and two experts from Western European and other States for a term beginning on 1 January 1997.

Twelve experts from different regions were invited.

(a) Panels of experts shall be formed, including experts appointed by the Secretary General, experts working within the United Nations system and experts from Governments and civil society

Sixty three experts from Parties and five experts from organizations (two from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and three from non governmental organizations) attended the workshop.

If the list of experts was insufficient, the Subcommittee could request experts from the specialized agencies.

The review team included experts from Argentina and Spain.

The team included experts from Egypt and the Netherlands.

However, two common elements were the election of a chairperson from among the experts and initial presentations by the experts.

It was attended by about 700 experts from 82 countries.

In inviting new experts for the training course, the secretariat continues to give priority to experts from non Annex I Parties and, in particular, has sought experts from countries that have not previously been involved in the review process.

The secretariat shall make every effort to ensure geographical balance among those experts selected from non Annex I Parties and among those experts selected from Annex I Parties.

Guidance is also available in person from the BDP gender unit, sectoral practice areas and regional bureaux, regional gender advisors, gender experts from other United Nations organizations, and national experts.
