13. In the period under review, UNICRI has continued its participation in, and responsibility for, the international crime (victim) survey.

The third international crime (victim) survey is being carried out in 12 industrialized, 12 developing and 15 countries in transition.

Considering that the author was unable to cross examine the alleged victim, although he was the sole eyewitness to the alleged crime, the Committee concluded that the author was the victim of a violation of article 14, paragraph (e).

It was emphasized that in addition to participating in the United Nations surveys of crime trends and operations of criminal justice systems, Member States should be encouraged to participate in the international crime (victim) surveys.

Considering that the author was unable to cross examine the alleged victim, although he was the sole eyewitness to the alleged crime, the Committee concludes that the author was the victim of a violation of article 14, paragraph 3 (e).

A fund to promote victim support has been created to support non governmental organization initiatives addressing victims of violent crime, including victims of trafficking in persons.
