Gender Issues

The Government continually assessed and revised laws pertaining to international human rights instruments. It had recently reviewed legislation on child justice, care and protection and had stepped up advocacy and awareness raising programmes targeting children at risk.

In terms of legislation, a children apos s protection code had been adopted in November 1995, under which a network of child protection officers had been established throughout the country.

For example, the Government of India reported the establishment of a National Commission for Children, with a focus on child protection, and Pakistan has established national child protection centres for child protection.

Our National Child Protection Authority implements many programmes to eliminate abuse and violence against children and to ensure their protection as well as their right to freely enjoy life's most precious gift, childhood.

The new Child Protection Code, adopted in November 1995, provided for a network of child protection officers throughout the country to promote preventive action for children in difficult circumstances.

The OVC agenda and protection programmes for children in particular were also part of this mechanism.
