International assistance tends to reach its peak in the immediate aftermath of a disaster.

The volatile security situation during September also took a toll on international personnel working in Darfur.

In addition, commitments entered into at recent international conferences had not been sufficiently put into effect.

The Appeals Chamber is bound to be strained as trials are completed by both the ICTR and the ICTY.

Next, let me turn to the work of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR).

Pressure needs to be put on these international agencies to ensure they bring their metadata up to standard.

The precedent created by the referral of the Darfur situation to the International Criminal Court is promising.

The time had come to bring about peace in the Middle East, and the international community should support efforts to achieve that objective.

According to the World Tourism Organisation (WTO), the number of international tourism arrivals is expected to increase by 4.1 per cent annually to reach close to 1.6 billion international arrivals by the year 2020.

Although Europe, the Americas, and East Asia and the Pacific will account for 80 per cent of total arrivals, and thus continue to dominate in terms of volume, international tourist arrivals to Africa are forecast to grow, on average, by 5.5 per cent per year during this period and those to South Asia by more than 6 per cent, compared with a world average of just over 4 per cent.

21. Developed countries had particular responsibilities in the context of international cooperation, the keystone of which was assistance to least developed countries.

The international strategy for supporting efforts to make peace in Darfur has also faced some impediments.

Although those activities had not progressed at the pace the international community might have liked to see, they gave hope for the future.
