There is a close relationship between land rights and health.

The relationship of women to land is based on traditional values of family ownership of land where usufruct is most common.

Customary land shall consist of reserves, land allocated to groupements de droit particulier local (groups covered by special local law provisions) (GPDL) and land allocated by ADRAF in response to claims made on the basis of ties to the land.

It focuses on the relationship of indigenous people to the land and presents some of the concerns and achievements of indigenous communities.

351. In relation to the legal status of the comarcas, the Committee suggests that the State party explain more precisely in its next report the status of the comarcas in comparison to the status of the provinces.

The Working Group decided to recommend to the Sub Commission that it invite Governments, the United Nations system, indigenous and non governmental organizations, as well as relevant academic institutions to contribute information concerning land rights to the Special Rapporteur on the study on indigenous people and their relationship to land prior to the sixteenth session of the Working Group.

The Land Regulation Task Force, which has been established by several divisions within FAO, continues to coordinate activities related to LIS, which depends on remotely sensed data, primarily aerial photographs and orthophotomaps, to construct effective multi purpose cadastral and land record systems for land registration and administration.

11. The distinctive nature of indigenous peoples apos relationship to lands is also captured in the draft United Nations declaration on the rights of indigenous peoples, in both preambular and operative paragraphs.

In keeping with the priority LIDLIP has always attached to matters related to indigenous peoples, it provided its input on the study under preparation on indigenous peoples and their relationship to land.

The close relationship indigenous peoples had with their traditional lands should always be taken into account when considering their health situation.

New standards are being devised based, in part, upon the values that have been expressed by indigenous peoples, which are consistent with indigenous peoples apos perspectives and philosophy about their relationship to their lands, territories and resources.

This was caused by a rise in population coupled with increasing scarcity of land and water.

14. The gradual deterioration of indigenous societies can be traced to the non recognition of the profound relationship that indigenous peoples have to their lands, territories and resources, as well as the lack of recognition of other fundamental human rights.

She fully supported articles 23, 4 and 8 and said with regard to articles 25 and 26 that the relationship indigenous peoples had with their land was unique among the peoples of the world.

6. It must be noted that, as indigenous peoples have explained, it is difficult to separate one indigenous concept from another this is especially true when trying to describe indigenous peoples apos relationship to their lands, territories and resources.

269. The observer for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission stated that articles 25 and 26 recognized the unique relationship indigenous peoples had with their land and resources which were of critical importance for their survival and the exercise of the right of self determination.

249. The observer for Sweden recognized the intimate relationship indigenous peoples had with their lands and therefore supported the inclusion of such recognition in the declaration.

The Working Group decided to include on its agenda a new item entitled Study on indigenous people and their relationship to land .

Mental health disorders and substance use are closely related to the inability of indigenous peoples to control their lands, environment and destinies.
