Financing of 1998 budget

The sixth pledging event in the context of the multi year funding framework took place in January 2005.

Current estimates for 1997 funding and projections for 1998 thus reveal a continuing reduction in contributions together with a small increase in non core and supplementary funding, which now represent the largest component of total funding.

Established in 2003, thematic funding has increased rapidly, resulting in greater efficiency.

Delegations encouraged UNFPA to make future MYFF reports more analytical and concise, indicating that poor quality data for quantitative goal and outcome indicators undermined the MYFF as a planning and monitoring tool and that country level data should be included in the cumulative MYFF report in 2007.

The 2006 2007 support budget covers the second part of the MYFF period, acting as a strategic framework for UNDP in aligning organizational capacities and related resources to better deliver on the goals and priorities of the MYFF.

The UNFPA resource framework for 2006 2007 is consistent with the 2004 2007 MYFF, covering the second part of the MYFF and providing support to the strategic priorities of the UNFPA programme, which is aligned to the Millennium Development Goals and poverty reduction.

The extent to which the multi year financing framework can serve to advance the enhanced predictability of core funding that the framework allows is linked to the multi year nature of this instrument.

The evolution of these issues will also inform the UNCDF programming and funding framework for 2008 2011, which will be harmonized with the new UNDP multi year funding framework (MYFF).
