The Indonesian government pays serious attention to issues of trafficking in women, for commercial purposes or for sexual exploitation of women, with violence being part of their experience.

Considering the necessity of promoting the implementation of international norms and standards on trafficking in persons and exploitation of the prostitution of others, and of strengthening the mechanism of implementation of the Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others,

(b) Traffic in persons, as defined in the Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others of 2 December 1949 General Assembly resolution 317 (IV).

Preparations are under way for Kazakhstan to accede to the Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others.

27. The 1949 Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others consolidated four previous treaties the 1904 International Agreement for the Suppression of White Slave Traffic the 1910 International Convention for the Suppression of White Slave Traffic the 1921 International Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Women and Children and the 1933 International Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Women of Full Age.

Noting that the status of ratification of the Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices Similar to Slavery of 1956 and the Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others of 1949 is still unsatisfactory,

However, they are all covered by the two Programmes of Action for the Prevention of the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography and for the Prevention of Traffic in Persons and the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others.

4. Recalls the adoption by the Commission on Human Rights of the Programme of Action for the Prevention of the Traffic in Persons and the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others (E CN.4 Sub.2 1995 28 Add.1)

The 1949 Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others had been ratified by 71 States as of 31 January 1997.

Programmes of action relevant to the issue at hand have been adopted by the Commission on Human Rights regarding the prevention of the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography (1992), the elimination of the exploitation of child labour (1993) and the prevention of trafficking in persons and the exploitation of the prostitution of others (1996).

The preamble of the Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others (1949), which provides Whereas prostitution and the accompanying evil of the traffic in persons for the purpose of prostitution are incompatible with the dignity and worth of the human person and endanger the welfare of the individual, the family and the community, ... assimilates trafficking with prostitution.

53. The representative of Ethiopia stated that retaining the words even with the consent of the child was consistent with the 1949 Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others.

In the legal profession, there are 21 women judges, 3 barristers, 5 notaries, 1 provincial bailiff and 1 tax expert in charge of a tax collection office.

Taking into consideration the recommendation of the Sub Commission that the Commission adopt the draft programme of action for the prevention of the traffic in persons and the exploitation of the prostitution of others (E CN.4 Sub.2 1995 28 Add.1),

Traffic in women and exploitation of prostitution of women are also crimes punishable under Jordanian law article 310 of Jordanian Penal Code (Act No. 16 of 1960) provides that

6.2 Trafficking

Adopt and actively enforce anti trafficking legislation using the 1949 Convention for the Suppression of Trafficking in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others and the recent UN Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children.

Furthermore, the current provision on the prohibition of trafficking in women has been changed to a prohibition on trafficking in human beings and trafficking in workers.

6. Requests the Sub Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities to encourage its Working Group on Contemporary Forms of Slavery to continue to address the issue of the traffic in women and girls under its draft programme of action on the traffic in persons and the exploitation of the prostitution of others

The Committee notes that trafficking is an international crime and therefore not only concerns women trafficked out of Slovakia, but also those being trafficked into Slovakia from neighbouring countries.
