As regards commission income, it is required to make disclosure of the amount of such income at current period and last period by category (income from application fee, income from redemption fee, income from transition fee and income from subscription fee).

During the biennium 1996 1997, the Department s Sales and Marketing Section reported an excess of income over expenditure amounting to US 1.7 million, exceeding almost three times its estimated earnings for that period.

About 47 per cent of households had seen their income plummet by more than 50 per cent over the same period.

Income for a financial period is defined as money or money equivalent received or accrued during the financial period which increases existing net assets.

Funds received or pledges recorded as receivable, attributable to future financial periods and, therefore, not credited to the income account of the period reported on.

Apart from these, tax policy and welfare expenditure have been instrumental over a long period of time in transferring income from the higher to the lower income groups.

14. Schedules 5.1 and 5.2 present the details of general income and net income from revenue producing activities, which totalled 90.0 million in the 1996 1997 biennium. This was 11.0 million, or 13.9 per cent, higher than the final budgeted amounts for 1996 1997 and 31.9 per cent higher than the total of 68.2 million received during the previous biennium.
