Nuclear energy is projected to decrease its relative share because the planned expansion of nuclear power in some countries will not match the overall increase in global energy demand.

The strategy aims at assuring increased core resources and finding a means of increasing burden sharing among donors to UNICEF core resources.

Our energy plan envisages a substantial increase in nuclear electricity generation by the year 2030, representing an increase in the share of nuclear energy from the current 0.8 per cent to 4.2 per cent.

Nuclear energy is very important to Armenia, as it supplies about 40 per cent of the country's energy needs.

While total funding from core and non core resources has increased modestly in recent years, the share of core resources in overall resources has declined and now constitutes less than half of the total.

So the difference is the opportunity cost of using nuclear versus wind, or something else.

We applaud the Agency's continued fulfilment of this role as a catalyst for development of nuclear technology by the developing countries and as an agent for maintaining the safe use of nuclear energy.
