In order to facilitate the report compilation by the UNCCD secretariat, it is recommended that reports should be produced in either MS Word 6 or above, or Rich Text Format.

The background report as well as the review team s report and a summary account of this meeting will be compiled and edited by the secretariat for publication in a single volume, to be published by the United Nations.

The present synthesis report is based on the information provided in the reports and responses received.4 The present report takes no account of information relating to countries that did not submit reports or questionnaires.

The idea of putting studies of the Repertory on the Internet was also to be commended.

The secretariat of the Commission was requested to synthesize the results of those assessments, and to organize, within existing resources, an inter agency meeting to discuss the synthesis report.

It will increase its efforts to develop more reader friendly compilation and synthesis reports and review reports, and strengthen their analytical components.

It is anticipated that the final product of the GMP would be a compendium of regional assessment reports, one for each region, together with a global overview report.

This sixth compilation and synthesis report consists of seven parts an executive summary and six thematic reports.

Information will only be compiled once reports have been submitted by all participating Parties.
