The IWK Health Centre provides health services to youth at the NS Youth Centre in Waterville through an interdisciplinary health team including nurses, psychologists, social workers, a physician and psychiatric services.

Youth

Some youth state that the entrepreneurial spirit should be developed in rural areas, but not exclusively in the agricultural sector.

A holistic approach has been adopted, encompassing general, mental, physical and spiritual health of the young.

The programme envisages adoption of a national action plan on youth employment by 2006 and preparation of measures to promote youth entrepreneurship in remote areas and to improve the training and education of young people in this area.

Azerbaijan, as one of the first countries to join the Network, has recently adopted a youth policy in the form of the State Programme for Youth 2005 2009, which views the promotion of youth employment and youth entrepreneurship among its key policy directions.

The Committee is concerned at the lack of adolescent health services and the large number of teenage pregnancies.

However, if Governments employ specific programmes to promote youth employment and entrepreneurship at the national level, we will succeed in significantly reducing youth unemployment.

The Committee is also concerned at the increasing alcohol and tobacco consumption by adolescents and the lack of programmes for the prevention of suicide among adolescents.

And I particularly remember a really good speech by Kim Jong Il on how to get teens smoking again.

Adolescent health

The Committee welcomes the establishment of a specific juvenile justice system under the Law on Juvenile Justice of 19 April 1996.

It consolidated provisions of the Young Offenders (British Columbia) Act and youth provisions of the Correction Act into a comprehensive provincial statute written specifically for youth.
