Dissemination of information on decolonization was equally vital the Department of Political Affairs and the Department of Public Information had been doing a commendable job.

For example, in England and Wales, the Home Office has introduced national targets such as achieving an increase of at least 1 per cent in public satisfaction with justice over the period 2002 2005 (see United Kingdom, Home Office, Department for Constitutional Affairs, Improving Public Satisfaction and Confidence in the Criminal Justice System (London, 2003).

Let me take this opportunity to commend the various branches of the Secretariat, in particular those within the Department of Political Affairs and the Department for Disarmament Affairs, that are providing valuable support to the work of the three Committees.

From 30 March to 4 April 2005, the Department for Disarmament Affairs, the Department of Economic and Social Affairs and UNDP undertook an advisory mission to Sri Lanka with a view to assisting with the operationalization of the national commission.

That format was therefore a work in progress which would be improved in liaison with the Department of Political Affairs and the Department of Peacekeeping Operations.
