There are about 1,000 registered trade unions and many of them are in fact affiliated to international trade union organizations.

There were numerous trade unions for public sector employees, including the Trade Union of Employees of State Institutions, Self Governments and the Finance Sector, the Trade Union of Public Service Employees, the Nursing and Health Care Personnel Trade Union, the Health and Social Care Workers Trade Union and the Education and Science Workers Trade Union.

Under Article 4 of the Law On Trade Unions trade unions have the right to join international trade union organisations, to enter into agreements and treaties with these international organisations, as well as foreign trade unions.

124. There are no legal and practical restrictions on the right of trade unions to federate and join international trade union organizations.

According to international standards, women had to find their own place within the Trade Union structures.
