(e) The Agreement Governing the Activities of States on the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies (the Moon Agreement , Assembly resolution 34 68, annex) had 11 States parties and had been signed by 5 additional States.

So far, only 56 States have become party to the Agreement.

Foreign media report that the United States and Canada have reached a framework agreement on the North American Free Trade Agreement.

We hope that this nomination will receive wide agreement among Member States.

Special agreement on such issues might be needed between the interested States.

7. Calls upon States to provide assistance to developing States as outlined in the Agreement, notes the importance of participation by representatives of developing States in forums in which fisheries issues are discussed, and once the Agreement enters into force, agrees to review the implementation of the provisions calling for assistance to developing States and to facilitate the establishment of a programme of assistance within the Agreement

It noted that so far, 27 member States had signed the Agreement and seven States, namely China, Japan, Myanmar, the Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and Viet Nam had ratified, accepted or approved the Agreement.

Noting with satisfaction the imminent entry into force of the Agreement due to the fact that thirty States have ratified or acceded to it, and noting also that the entry into force of the Agreement entails responsibilities for States parties and other important considerations as outlined in the Agreement,

We welcome the ratification of the Agreement this year by Belize, Kiribati, Guinea and Liberia, bringing the number of States parties to 56, and urge those States, in particular fishing States, that still have not ratified the Agreement to do so as soon as possible.
