The Department of Hindu Religious and Cultural Affairs and the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs of the Ministry are responsible for the promotion and protection of these cultures.

The Department of Cultural Linkage and Civic Responsibility manages the states' Cultural Infrastructure Support Programme, which contributes to the recovery and optimum use of cultural spaces owned by states and municipalities.

Non governmental cultural organizations (national cultural associations and societies that have cultural programmes) are also in some part financed from the budget of the sub department, by grants to non profit organizations.

400. The Department of Archaeology is responsible for the preservation of the cultural heritage of Sri Lanka.

In 2003 2004, the Department of Culture, Heritage and Tourism, with financial assistance from the Department of Aboriginal and Northern Affairs, established the Minister's Advisory Council on First Nations and Indigenous Arts and Cultural Activities and the Minister's Advisory Council on Métis Arts and Cultural Activities.

In pursuance of the objectives of the Department of Hindu Religious and Cultural Affairs, the following programmes are being implemented

3. The Department continues to stress the realization of economic, social and cultural rights in many of its radio and television programmes which are produced regularly by the Department in a variety of languages.

As early as in 2002, this sub department proposed that its legal team develop the Law on Cultural Goods in Brčko District.

383. The Department of Museums maintains and administers the following museums of cultural significance and interest, established by the Government, in Colombo and the provinces, to inform and educate the public of their cultural heritage.

Establish a Wakf house that will accommodate the Department, the Wakf Board, the Wakf Tribunal and a centre for Muslim cultural activities under one roof

The Department of Cultural Linkage and Civic Participation (DGVCC) is carrying out a Programme for Municipal Cultural Development aimed at establishing financial funds and installing municipal Civic Councils for Culture, which will plan, implement and administer the programme resources.

Under a schools apos museum project, the Department is setting up small museums in selected schools outside Colombo, with exhibits of both cultural and scientific interest.

The Department of Cultural Linkage and Civic Participation (DGVCC) is responsible for cultural linkage between the states of the Mexican Republic and the Federation through programmes of collaboration among the federal, state and municipal governments, with the organized participation of society in its design and orchestration.

On 23 November 2004, the Corcoran Art Gallery of Washington, D.C., under pressure from OFAC and the Department of State, cancelled a cultural evening sponsored by the Cuban Interests Section.

All cultural institutions in Brčko District are under the sub department for Sports and Culture ( Home of Culture , gallery, library) and are financed from the budget that is adopted by the Assembly on the basis of the annual plan and the report submitted by the sub department.

Installation, jointly with the Department of University Linkage, of reading rooms in higher education institutions and, with the Department of Cultural Linkage and Civic Participation, for people with special needs, such as children in crèches and orphanages, old people in homes, prisoners, hospital patients and so on.

The compliance department and compliance posts shall be independent from the business department, the financial department and the internal auditing department.

The United Nations Department of Public Information sent an exhaustive reply on its role in the dissemination of information and the promotion of activities relating to economic, social and cultural rights.
