UNDCP cooperated with the Government of Nepal in the elaboration of demand reduction strategies and the preparation of a demand reduction action plan, in consultation with non governmental organizations.

Demand reduction programmes should be developed and implemented within the context of an overall national strategic plan (Australia, Colombia, ESCAP).

In the course of implementing the national demand reduction plan of Brazil, five key areas (Ceara, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul) elaborated comprehensive demand reduction plans.

. UNDP is financing a demand reduction project in south east Asia, master plan preparation in Zambia and an institution building project in Malawi.

Section VIII of the questionnaire, on drug demand reduction, was designed along the lines of the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Declaration on the Guiding Principles of Drug Demand Reduction (General Assembly resolution 54 132, annex).

The Government of Pakistan has launched a 25 year energy security plan to respond to that high growth rate and to meet the rising demand for energy.

The plan emphasizes attention to the housing demand through the use of appropriate credit mechanisms and the granting of direct and transparent subsidies to low income households.

Paraguay, with assistance from a UNDCP consultant, developed a national drug control plan in the course of 1995, with emphasis on demand reduction and suppression of drug trafficking.

In that regard, the United Nations System wide Action Plan on Drug Abuse Control, in particular the demand reduction activities, called for the cooperation of the international community.

But the European economic recovery plan that was recently reaffirmed by the European Council of Ministers is mainly focused on national measures to support domestic demand. In implementing this plan, governments must refrain from the temptation to turn national measures into narrow protectionist schemes.

This has been reflected in the revised medium term plan through the introduction of a dedicated subprogramme for demand reduction, increasing the total number of subprogrammes from three to four.

Furthermore, a demand reduction programme, developed within the framework of the master plan, will be implemented in Viet Nam and a drug abuse prevention education project will be supported in Myanmar.

Oh, they demand?

In its resolution 54 132 of 17 December 1999, the Assembly adopted the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Declaration on the Guiding Principles of Drug Demand Reduction, annexed to that resolution.

In view of the expected level of economic growth, during the period of the Eighth Plan (1992 1996) it is intended that the whole of the additional demand for jobs will be satisfied.

Supply, demand, big opportunity.

It's risk and demand.

And thirdly, public demand.

The demand is huge.
