Part II, Section 16 Special transport permit sets provisions that require permit holders to account for and secure transport of nuclear material.

Italian Law n. 497 of 14.10.1974 (article 12) sanctions the transport of nuclear weapons with imprisonment from 2 to 10 years.

Transporters of sensitive nuclear material have to be similarly approved by OCNS, and must have approved transport plans for each movement.

The Nuclear Industries Security Regulations 2003 make provision for the protection of nuclear material (during production, use and storage on sites and during transport) against the risks of theft and sabotage, and for the protection of sensitive nuclear information, such as site security arrangements.

Nuclear security has been further strengthened by the adoption on 8 July 2005 of amendments to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material, which will require States parties to protect nuclear facilities and material in peaceful domestic use and storage and in transport.

The Government of Kazakhstan is stepping up its measures to strengthen national systems aimed at the monitoring, control, transport and physical protection of nuclear materials.

The Safeguards Act also establishes a system for control over nuclear material and associated items in Australia through requirements for permits for their possession and transport.

Enforcing the practical implementation of respective laws and regulations, nuclear and radiation control devices for road and rail transport are installed in all major border crossing points.

5. Stresses the importance of special security and physical protection measures for the transport and storage of non strategic nuclear weapons, and calls upon all nuclear weapon States in possession of such weapons to take the necessary steps in this regard

And in July, parties to the Convention on Physical Protection of Nuclear Material agreed on major changes that would make it legally binding for countries to protect nuclear facilities and material in peaceful domestic use, in storage and in transport.
