The majority of workers were self employed or unpaid family workers (predominately women).

The Government must also respect the role of the African Union Mission in the Sudan and of the humanitarian workers who are providing assistance to Sudanese civilians in need, most of whom are women and girls.

But the vibrancy of civil society, the sense of common purpose, the universal manifestations of social solidarity that our union stood for in its time all these things are largely gone. The union itself is a shell of its own former self, a partisan and mostly right wing movement of workers buffeted by the new economic reality.

Similarly, rural workers (3.9 ) are more prone to injuries diseases compared to urban workers (2.9 ).

In the European Union, Sweden voted against almost all anti dumping and other protectionist proposals. This never met any criticism from my voters, because educational policy and the social safety net were designed to lower workers risk aversion.

In the US, union failure to represent members interests adequately contributed to a major pension default at the Studebaker Corporation in 1963. The AFL CIO, the United Auto Workers and the United Steel Workers then petitioned Congress against strong opposition from business interests to establish the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation in 1974 to insure private pensions against companies failure to honor them.

We need more workers.

A significant contribution to the present review can be made by Public Services International (PSI), a global union federation of 20 million workers in 150 countries, many of whom work to deliver such vital services as water and energy.
