Its membership will consist of a chairperson, who will be the Deputy Secretary General, two members at the Under Secretary General level and an external expert in public sector management.

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, known as UN Habitat, is headed by an Executive Director at the Under Secretary General level, responsible to the Secretary General.

The Deputy Secretary General will assist me in coordinating these efforts.

The Under Secretary General also serves as coordinator for questions relating to multilingualism throughout the Secretariat.

The resources of the Office also include the provision for the post of the Deputy Secretary General.

3. Requests the Secretary General to appoint the Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs as the Coordinator for the Second Decade

Alongside with female foreign minister and male permanent under secretary there are 3 female deputy under secretaries (of the total of 6), 5 female director generals of departments (of the total of 17), and 32 female directors of divisions (of the total of 47) in the leading positions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Václav Mikulka, Director of the Codification Division of the Office of Legal Affairs, acted as Secretary of the Ad Hoc Committee. Mahnoush H. Arsanjani, Deputy Director of the Division, acted as Deputy Secretary of the Ad Hoc Committee and Secretary to its Working Group of the Whole.

The functions and responsibilities of the Deputy Secretary General are defined in paragraph 1 of General Assembly resolution 52 12 B of 19 December 1997.

The High level Panel suggested that I appoint a second Deputy Secretary General to improve the decision making process on peace and security.

Ms. Mabutas (Director of the Office of the Under Secretary General for Management) recalled that the Accountability Panel had been established in 2002 and was chaired by the Deputy Secretary General.

5.1 The Deputy Executive Secretary is accountable to the Executive Secretary.

Pursuant to rule 15 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary General wishes to report that he has received a note verbale dated 26 January 2005 from the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, stating that Nikolay V. 5.2 The Deputy Executive Secretary is responsible for

The job descriptions for the posts had been formulated under the authority of the Under Secretary General for Management, as the new Under Secretary General for Safety and Security had not taken up his post until 28 February 2005.

The Executive Secretary reports to the Secretary General on administrative and financial matters through the Under Secretary General for Management and on substantive matters through the Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs.

At the same meeting, statements were made by the Deputy Secretary General, the Acting President of the General Assembly, the Vice President of the Economic and Social Council, and the Assistant Secretary General and Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women.
