There are currently 530 staff members, of whom 145 are women and 385 are men.

The occupational group with the highest concentration of women is that of office worker women account for 70.4 per cent of this group.

57. As indicated in section I of this report, women remain concentrated at the lower levels of the Professional category, with the majority of women at the P 3 level.

However, while women comprise 56.7 per cent of the General Service category, women are under represented in both the Security and Trades and Crafts categories, where they account for 4.5 per cent and 3.2 per cent of staff, respectively.

The Office will also monitor the representation of women by occupation and identify and develop recruitment sources to expand the pool of women candidates for posts in occupations in which women are under represented.

In the Professional category, the proportion of female staff is 41.3 per cent.

Women civilian personnel on higher pay scales

265. The female workers in the duty free zones are young women, averaging 21.4 years of age, and 64.1 of them are single, compared with 51.6 of the men.

The possibility of appointment to a post of director are three times greater for men than for women, and in the case of executive posts it is two times greater for men.

As for gender balance, only 25 per cent of filled posts at this level were occupied by women, while at the P 5 level and above, only 18 per cent were occupied by women.

The Deputy Prime Minister was a woman, and there were three female members of the Cabinet.

To mention just one example although women are 43.9 of the staff of the Federal Public Administration, the proportion of women in Committee positions corresponds to 47.8 at the lowest level (DAS 1) and 16.6 at the highest level (DAS 6).

348. The Committee urges the Government to strengthen vocational and technical training and career counselling for young women and to increase its information activities regarding non traditional jobs for women in order to reduce job segregation patterns and the wage gap between women and men.

During the previous government's period in office, the figures were almost the same two women ministers and five women MPs.

Office staff such employees represent 13 per cent of the female EAP.

Most of the civil servants are women, which should also serve as a basis for the advancement of women into leadership positions.

Currently, there were four women at the Secretary General level in the Civil Service and a number of female heads of State agencies.

(c) Occupational segregation, including concentration in traditional female occupations

Women also only represented 12 per cent of the employees in level A1 and 12.5 per cent in level A2 and were underrepresented in decision making posts, including in the education sector where a relatively higher number of women are being employed.

In 1990, women accounted for only 25 per cent of managers, administrators and high ranking employees.

Female staff are also poorly represented in the Director category (33.25 per cent of 382 staff).
