212. Work is nearly completed on the establishment of a global SAR plan.

As a result, the development of SAR plans in the 13 areas of the world s oceans, as required by the SAR Convention, has been relatively slow and by 1995 10 years after its entry into force provisional SAR plans had only been drawn up for nine regions.

The National Centre of Emergency Social Care (EKAKV) is at the core of the integrated programme of actions.

It was therefore anticipated that WFP would provide 73,530 metric tonnes of relief food aid to the Sudan in 1998.
