47. The Joint and Co sponsored United Nations Programme on HIV AIDS (UNAIDS) continued to work actively to support the development of gender sensitive multisectoral programmes and strategies on HIV AIDS.

From just the one mine action programme in Afghanistan 10 years ago, there are now 8 operating under United Nations auspices throughout the world and more are planned in a number of other countries.

The GICHD continued to administer the Sponsorship Programme established by some States Parties to the Convention.

State audit offices will have been strengthened, and the Joint United Nations HIV AIDS Programme will have supported a number of HIV AIDS control and prevention programmes.

We have come a long way since the creation of UNAIDS, the joint and co sponsored United Nations programme on HIV AIDS.
