In the year 2002 03, The Ombudsman received 14,298 enquiries and 4,382 complaints.

It did not interview the complainant's sister, who had nursed him after the incident, the doctor who examined him, the police officers on duty the day the incident occurred, or the complainant's lawyers.

Data provided by the Board show that in 2001 there had been 60 appeals lodged. In 2002, there were 72 appeals submitted, while in 2003 and 2004, the number of cases submitted to the Board for resolution were 50 and 42, respectively (the latter figure including one class action of 232 appellants).

Seventy per cent of complainants considered their claims properly addressed, 78 per cent considered the process fair and 87 per cent indicated they would use it again.
