The supervision and administration of the municipal schools, mainly the Folkeskole, rests with the municipal council.

The municipal council has the overall responsibility for the school system of the municipality.

The Colombo Municipal Council and the Common Amenities Board worked together to improve the health, nutrition and basic facilities of poor children and mothers within the municipal limits of Colombo.
