In the Constitutional law on citizenship, Chapter IV Nationality of children, nationality of parents, tutors and guardians and nationality of incompetent persons notes that the nationality of children under the age of 14 is the same as that of the parents. The nationality of children 14 18 years old may change if they consent to it.

1. The predecessor State shall withdraw its nationality from persons concerned qualified to acquire the nationality of the successor State in accordance with article 24. It shall not, however, withdraw its nationality before such persons acquire the nationality of the successor State.

2.1 After the German occupation of the border area of Czechoslovakia in 1939, and the establishment of the protectorate , Eugen and Josefa Czernin, the now deceased parents of the author, were automatically given German citizenship, under a German decree of 20 April 1939.

When a person concerned who is qualified to acquire the nationality of a successor State has the nationality of another State concerned, the former State may make the attribution of its nationality dependent on the renunciation by such person of the nationality of the latter State. However, such requirement shall not be applied in a manner which would result in rendering the person concerned stateless, even if only temporarily.

A State of nationality may not exercise diplomatic protection in respect of a person against a State of which that person is also a national unless the nationality of the former State is predominant, both at the date of injury and at the date of the official presentation of the claim.

Furthermore, article 20 of the Constitution stipulates that no national may be deprived of his or her nationality and that Nicaraguan nationality is not lost when a person acquires a different nationality.

4. When persons entitled to the right of option have exercised such right, the State whose nationality they have renounced shall withdraw its nationality from such persons, unless they would thereby become stateless.

Thus, children acquire the nationality of their father, but they may choose to revert to their nationality of origin when they reach the age of majority if their father is a foreigner who takes Guinean nationality, or if he is a Guinean who renounces his nationality for another.

Children born to a marriage in which the parents hold different citizenships obtain that citizenship upon which the parents agree, and, if the laws of the country of residence or origin of the parents permit it, children can have both citizenships.

They shall ensure in particular that neither marriage to an alien nor change of nationality by the husband during marriage shall automatically change the nationality of the wife, render her stateless or force upon her the nationality of the husband.

The attribution of nationality in relation to the succession of States, as well as the acquisition of nationality following the exercise of an option, shall take effect on the date of such succession, if persons concerned would otherwise be stateless during the period between the date of the succession of States and such attribution or acquisition of nationality.

The Committee, noting the information provided regarding the acquisition of nationality, is concerned that a Bahraini woman is unable to transmit her nationality to her child when she is married to a foreign national, and that a foreign man is unable to acquire Bahraini nationality in the same manner as a foreign woman.

Unless she has rejected his citizenship, she becomes stateless.

When the nationality legislation was first enacted, the chief concern of its drafters had been to ensure that every child had a nationality and that no one was left stateless.

German authorities have not yet made public the nationalities and identities of the three terrorist suspects, nor stated when to arrest them.

By virtue of jus soli, a minor acquires Guinean nationality if the father is stateless or of unknown nationality, or if the parents are of unknown nationality, or if the child is a foundling.
